Freedom’s Cost Echoes in Every Liberty We Hold
Freedom’s Cost Echoes in Every Liberty We Hold
Every freedom we enjoy—whether as citizens of a nation or as children of God—has been purchased at a great cost. The privileges and opportunities we often take for granted are the result of sacrifices made by those who came before us. Soldiers have laid down their lives on battlefields so that we might live in peace and security, and Christ gave His life on the cross so that we might be set free from sin and death. These sacrifices are not distant history; they are the foundation of our present reality.
To live worthy of such a price means to steward our freedoms with gratitude and responsibility. It is easy to slip into complacency, forgetting that the liberties we enjoy are not self-sustaining. We are called to honor the cost by living lives marked by thankfulness, humility, and a willingness to serve others. Let us not take lightly what was so dearly bought, but instead, let our daily choices reflect the value of the freedom we have received.
Galatians 5:13-14 (KJV): “For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another. For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.”
Reflection: What is one freedom you enjoy today that you often overlook? How can you intentionally express gratitude for it and use it to serve someone else this week?
